School Context Statement

Banisil Elementary School is located at Baranagy Tambler, General Santos City. It is along the National Highway to Kiamba, Sarangani Province. Its distance from the heart of the city is 14- kilometers.

The school was opened in 1965 as a Banisil Primary School in honor to the school site donor, Hadji Abdulgafor Lintang Banisil with the land area of 3.2- hectares. That time, a two classroom building was constructed and an artesian well.

In 1980, it was recognized as a Banisil Elementary School. It had six classrooms with Home Economics building accommodating pupils from Grade I to VI with one teacher per grade. The pupils were composed of 90% Maguindanaon (Muslim) and 10% Bl'aan (Ethnic) with the primary source of their living was through fishing and little of farming.

In 1989, the residents from Barrio Lapok in Calumpang, were relocated beside the school and as known as Diamond Valley. As a result, the school's population soared high with 50% Christian children and 50% ethnic groups.

In the 90% up to the present, the school population increased beyond the targets. It is because there was the availability of employment in this barangay from different factories, companies, and fish port.
